I love to read books about punk rock. It's history, it's legacies, anything.
The problem is that all of these accounts of punk are so anglo it hurts!
Now, the great exception I see is Please Kill Me, but that really only talks about the very beginning of punk. And in most other cases NYC punk is glossed over and most of the time is spent on 1976 in the UK. And that's fine. I've read one book that concentrated a lot on the SF and LA scenes, but for the most part it was just a fraction of the time spent on the Sex Pistols alone. And then by most accounts punk completely disappeared until Sonic Youth took Nirvana on tour with them.
You and I know that this is simply not true.
I've always wanted to write a book but I never knew what I wanted it to be about.
Now I think I have an idea.
I think I'd like to write a history of punk rock, post-punk and indie rock from an American's perspective. Now, of course I will focus on music from all over the world but I'd like to fill in those details that we're left out of American underground music from the 80's to early 90's. In fact I'd like to go beyond that up to the present.
This is not something that will happen overnight. This is something that will probably take a few years to do in free time. So, if anyone thinks this is interesting and would like to contribute in any way, let me know. I'd appreciate the help.
